Capitol Lakes, a continuing care retirement community in Madison, Wisconsin, and Pacific Retirement Services affiliate, recently introduced the OmniVR Virtual Rehabilitation System from Accelerated Care Plus (ACP) in its skilled nursing and rehabilitation center. Designed specifically for older adults and individuals with limited physical abilities, OmniVR technology “uses an advanced 3D camera and specialized computer software to track the patient’s precise movements and allow them to interact in a virtual world,” according to ACP. Med-Fit moves manufacturing back to USA

Upcoming ACE symposium includes active aging
The 6th Annual American Council on Exercise (ACE) Fitness Symposium will be held November 3–5, 2011, at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina in San Diego, California. DINOFLEX celebrates a recycling milestone
DINOFLEX Group, which manufactures recycled rubber surfaces, is celebrating the 10th year of its ReGrind recycling program. The company has been collecting consumer building waste from construction projects as well as post-manufacturing waste from indoor flooring since 2002. Through ReGrind, this material is used in the manufacture of various types of products. DINOFLEX estimates that its efforts have saved an estimated 800,000 kg [800 metric tonnes] from landfills, and that’s just in the company’s post-manufacturing waste. Masterpiece Living communities accumulate miles for walking campaign
Masterpiece Living’s network of active-adult communities walked nearly 206,000 miles during May 2011—equivalent to circling the globe more than eight times. This record-breaking effort was due to their participation in the Mayo Clinic Walk to Wellness campaign, offered by Masterpiece Living each year to increase physical activity for residents and staff. The 2,000 participants kept logs to monitor progress and received walking-related inspirational messages, tips and incentives. Danish study utilizes Thera-Band tubing
Using Thera-Band resistance tubing with soft handles, a recent Danish trial of 198 office workers with neck and shoulder pain showed that as little as a single set of lateral raises done to failure for two minutes per day, five days per week, can significantly reduce pain and tenderness. The study by Lars Andersen, PhD, and colleagues was presented at the 58th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine and the 2nd World Congress on Exercise is Medicine, held May 31–June 4, 2011.
