Ageism ruins careers in Canadian workplaces
Over the past two decades, Canada's labor force has seen greater numbers of people staying in the work force longer. However, widespread ageist views may be responsible for persistent negative beliefs and attitudes about older workers and their role in the workforce, according to the Forum of Federal/Provincial/Territorial Ministers Responsible for Seniors' new report, "Older Workers: Exploring and Addressing the Stereotypes." The report has lessons for organizations and companies across countries, as well as action steps to help create change.

Tech Talk: Anxious employees get digital mental health help
Meru Health, a company with a mission to help make mental healthcare more accessible, has created a coaching program targeted to employees. Its website states, "Meru Health Coaching is a personalized coaching program for stress or mild depression and anxiety symptoms. The program is based on the Emotional Intelligence framework and combines chat-based coach and peer support, virtual workshops, and evidence-based digital content to reduce stress, increase resilience and promote emotional wellbeing."

Stats: 89% of companies to boost wellbeing programs going forward
Aon plc, a professional services firm providing risk, retirement and health solutions, has published a report based on coalition meetings involving more than 130 organizations across multiple industries and four continents in 10 cities. Participants examined issues arising from the pandemic; shared key learnings and insights; helped develop best practices for moving forward; and outlined priorities to accelerate economic recovery, focusing on work, travel and convene efforts across leading businesses. The report is worth a read for context and global insights on post-pandemic planning.

How are companies protecting employees from COVID-19?
Fewer than 20% of employers reported testing their workers for COVID-19, and 35% have permanently reduced their workforce, according to a global business survey conducted by Arizona State University (ASU) and the World Economic Forum (WEF), with support from The Rockefeller Foundation. The survey was completed by 1,125 employers from 29 countries over an average of six weeks from September to October. The report on the findings is part of the first phase of the COVID-19 Workplace Commons - Keeping Workers Well initiative, which organizations might consider learning more about and/or joining.

Leaders urged to better engage employees working from home
A survey from leadership training company VitalSmarts, Provo, Utah, assessed the impact of a work-from-home (WFH) workforce on employee engagement, morale and productivity. The survey shows that proactive engagement from leaders is key. The findings are relevant to active-aging organizations, as elsewhere. A quick look at remote or partially remote jobs from one senior living organization on the Flexjobs website reveals that remote options are plentiful, particularly for higher level staff such as business development directors, home health operations directors, sales operation managers and providers such as nurses.

Stats: 83% of global executives value multigenerational workforce
A recent AARP survey of 5,598 Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries shows that global employers are in a position to lead changes that support mutigenerational, inclusive workforces, and that 83% value such environments. However, the surveyed executives say they want information and resources to guide them in building and sustaining these workforces.
