Canadian study finds high risk for head injuries in long-term care

For the study, the authors reviewed video footage of 227 falls among 133 residents at 2 local long-term care residences. They found 37% of falling residents struck their heads upon falling, and hit the ground—most often, on linoleum or tile flooring—more than 60% of the time. “By any measure, this is an alarmingly high prevalence,” the researchers observe.
