ICAA encourages older adults to take part in National President’s Challenge
Initiative promotes physical activity for Americans

VANCOUVER, BC—As an advocate for healthy aging, the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) often calls on adults ages 50 and older to take up regular physical activity. According to ICAA, an association that supports professionals who develop wellness and fitness facilities and services for this age group, research shows that a physically active lifestyle can improve health, prevent disease, and enhance independence, physical function and quality of life for older adults. It can be difficult, though, for individuals to motivate themselves to become and stay active. ICAA believes the National President’s Challenge, a six-week program that kicked off on March 20, is a great opportunity for older Americans to get moving and build towards 30 minutes of physical activity a day, five days a week—the minimum recommended amount of physical activity for health. As participants strive to adopt a healthier lifestyle during the National President’s Challenge, they can also work towards earning an award, tracking their activity on the initiative’s website. ICAA supports the National President’s Challenge, a program of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and encourages older adults to take up this challenge for better health today and tomorrow.
