ICAA and APTA SECTION launch partnership in conjunction with Active Aging Week
[Back to releases]
VANCOUVER--The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) and the Section on Geriatrics (SOG) of the American Physical Therapy Association have recently entered into a Promotional Partner Agreement that will have the two organizations collaborating to benefit the health of individuals aged 50 and above. ICAA is a professional association that supports professionals who develop wellness facilities, programs and services for adults over 50. The SOG serves a national membership of over 5,000 physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students.
"ICAA is thrilled to be collaborating with the Section on Geriatrics," says Colin Milner, the association's CEO and founder. "And, what better way to launch our relationship than in conjunction with Active Aging Week, as the SOG is a strong advocate for the importance of exercise and physical activity for adults as they age." The SOG is joining ICAA in promoting Active Aging Week during the last full week of September. This annual health promotion event was initiated by ICAA to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience activities and exercise in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere.
"Of course, the relationship between ICAA and the SOG is much deeper than Active Aging Week," states Milner, "and we look forward to working together to help change the way society perceives aging."
"We are very pleased to be more directly engaged with an organization like ICAA that advocates for older individuals becoming and staying active through all levels of functional ability," notes John O. Barr, PT, PhD, president of the Section on Geriatrics.
