Arthritis, which means literally "joint inflammation," is among the most prevalent diseases in the United States today. In 2002, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new statistics to show that arthritis and chronic joint symptoms, an indicator for arthritis and rheumatoid conditions, affect 70 million Americans, or one in three adults.(1) The disease is also the leading cause of disability in the nation today, limiting the daily activities of millions of people.
