Reduce obesity to reduce osteoarthritis symptoms

Obesity is prevalent among older adults. For example, in the US in 2005-2008, 35.6% of people 65-74 years and 25.9% of people 75+ were considered obese (National Center for Health Statistics). Osteoarthritis is also more common as people age, affecting about 33.6% of the US population 65 years and older. The knee is a common site of osteoarthritis.
