Focus on prevention reduces risk of long-term disability

Stroke and dementia are primary causes of long-term disability, pointed out the authors of a new study. Introducing their results, they noted that some risks for stroke can be modified (for example, smoking, hypertension and overweight), and that dementia has been related to a similar set of risk factors. Would a prevention program limit the need for long-term care among people who were at risk?
