Costs rise into the billions as more people have diabetes
Diabetes is a serious disease affecting about 25.8 million people (2010, diagnosed and undiagnosed) in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Among them, 10.9 million people are ages 65 years and older. In Canada, 2.4 million people had diabetes in 2008/2009 (Public Health Agency of Canada).
