Biggest return on employee wellness comes from managing chronic disease

In the chapter overviewing workplace wellness programs found in ICAA’s recent research publication, “Growth of the Active Aging Industry in the US and Canada, 2014," two reports from Rand Corporation identified the benefits offered in employee wellness programs. Those frequently offered benefits were health risk screenings, exercise programs, smoking cessation and weight loss programs. Workers who participated in the programs achieved statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in exercise frequency, smoking behavior and weight control, but not cholesterol control.
