City or suburb? Location matters for older adults

To track movement among residences in six major metropolitan areas in Canada (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver), a research team used census data to define urban and suburban areas, and compared these with another classification based on the age of the housing. The result showed that people 65 years and older moved away from the urban centers and moved into suburban areas in the census years 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006.
