Deliver and manage multidimensional choices for older adults
At ICAA, wellness encompasses seven dimensions: physical, social, emotional, spiritual, professional/vocational, cognitive/intellectual and environmental. Whether your organization provides older adults with their active-aging options through a single function or multiple departments, participants are most engaged when their pursuits are meaningful and personally rewarding.
From launching a single activity to planning a year’s worth of programs, professionals working in wellness—including activities, fitness, therapy and programs—have many resources to deliver engaging opportunities for an active lifestyle.
- Frequently visit the ICAA Articles Archives, where hundreds of authors share their advice and best practices in implementing programs. Find article indexed under physical, social, emotional, spiritual, vocational, and intellectual in addition to overall program design and management.
- Physical activity and exercise adapted for older adults with arthritis, diabetes, impairments and other conditions are available in the archive to safely guide instruction. Plus, you’ll find movement principles for designing and pacing physical activity.
- Use the free resources to plan and deliver Active Aging Week, ICAA’s annual health promotion event held the last week of September. ICAA supports organizations that host events to introduce older adults to an active-aging lifestyle with a range of promotional items, planning guides, examples and recommendations on obtaining sponsors and participants.
- Walk away with many idea and many new friends in active aging by attending the ICAA Active Aging Conference. Sessions bring together academics and best practices in wellness programs, exercise planning, activities, image and marketing.
- As an ICAA member, you will have a valuable source of programming material sent to your inbox when ICAA Functional U® arrives. This publication is targeted specifically to planning and delivering exercise and activity for older adults of all functional levels. - Share your own best practice by contributing your successful single class, activity or event that has been offered more than once to the ICAA Online Directory of Successful Programs for Older Adults. You can post your single activity/class, and you can search for ones of interest to you according to dimension of wellness.

- When you are seeking staff, visit the Career Center to post a job listing or look for resumes. You’ll also find a place to post your internships as well as locate schools that have interns.
