Tech Talk: Motion capture for creating metaverse avatars launches

Sony has released a mobile motion capture "mocopi" that uses lightweight sensors to transmit real-time motion input to a smartphone, creating virtual reality avatars that move at the same time and in the same way that the user does. Users attach small sensors to their head, both wrists, hips, and both ankles with a Velcro band or clip, connecting them via Bluetooth to Sony's smartphone app. With that motion capture data, the user can either export the motion capture as an MP4 video, or directly translate movements into compatible apps, such as VRChat, which is partnering with Sony for the product launch.

e-bikes may persuade older and/or overweight people who wouldn’t otherwise consider using a bike to try the e-bike.

The study involved sedentary older adults, so has implications across the active aging continuum.

Life-long exercise could keep muscles, nerves healthy in older age

Lifelong physical activity could protect against age-related loss of muscle mass and function, according to recently published research. Individuals ages 68 and above who were physically active throughout their lives had healthier aging muscle that functions better and is more resistant to fatigue compared to inactive individuals, both young and old. While it's still true that individuals reap benefits no matter when they start exercising, this study can help motivate younger staff and extended family members to stay active now and going forward.
