The International Osteoporosis Foundation estimates that osteoporosis affects 75 million people in Europe, the United States and Japan, and that one in three women and one in five men 50 years and older will experience an osteoporotic fracture.

Calls for action to prevent osteoporotic fractures
A new report issued by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) opens with the key message that, worldwide, a new spinal fracture occurs every 22 seconds. The report states that vertebral fractures are underdiagnosed and undertreated, with as many as two-thirds of spinal osteoporotic fractures not recognized by doctors. Untreated, as many as one in five women with a spinal fracture will sustain another within 12 months.
