Older adults face barriers to accessible, affordable mental health care

While nearly one in four older adults has either a mental health or substance use disorder, older adults often face barriers to accessing behavioral healthcare -- something active aging organizations should be aware of. A new AARP Public Policy Institute brief discusses barriers that are specific to older adults as well as broader systemic issues that affect behavioral healthcare access and affordability for people of all ages.
