Acupuncture can improve motor recovery after a stroke
Acupuncture can improve motor function recovery after stroke, with clinical gains correlated to increases in gray matter volume in brain regions governing motor control and coordination, researchers say. Hemiplegia (paralysis on one side of the body) is a common motor impairment following ischemic stroke, but true-acupoint acupuncture appears to offer therapeutic benefit. Active-aging communities might consider offering this alternative therapy, which has been linked to other health benefits.
