Exercise does not cause osteoarthritis
Although physical activity and exercise are continually recommended to older adults, a team of researchers was concerned that some consumers believed that exercise might harm their joints. One of the concerns is that exercise could lead to osteoarthritis, the painful condition caused by the wearing away of the protective cartilage around the joints. A primary risk factor for osteoarthritis is older age, along with obesity, bone and joint diseases, joint injuries and female gender.
