Calls for action to prevent osteoporotic fractures

A new report issued by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) opens with the key message that, worldwide, a new spinal fracture occurs every 22 seconds. The report states that vertebral fractures are underdiagnosed and undertreated, with as many as two-thirds of spinal osteoporotic fractures not recognized by doctors. Untreated, as many as one in five women with a spinal fracture will sustain another within 12 months.
