Why memory training helps people with cognitive impairment

Brain plasticity refers to the brain’s ability to change and reorganize. A research team wanted to look at the mechanisms behind the brain’s ability to improve memory ability following training in people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), a condition marked by a decline in thinking ability and memory that does not interfere in daily functioning. MCI can also be a precursor of dementia.
