The modern sage by Marge Coalman
In 1995, Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi published a 300-page call to action for older adults to understand and share his 'profound new vision of growing older.' Schachter-Shalomi's book, From Age-ing to Sage-ing, and his philosophy were widely praised by the likes of Ram Dass, Bernie Siegel and Larry Dossey, M.D., all mentors in the realm of spiritual growth and personal fulfillment. Eight years later, the Sage-ing movement flourishes in a culture where the media, the public at large, and even fitness and health professionals focus primarily on the pursuit of eternal youth.
