Just as we thought, neighborhoods influence well-being
Earlier this year, the results of the I’DGO studies in Europe (ICAA Research Review [12]17 May 2012) confirmed that neighborhood features and walkable access to local shops, services and green spaces doubled an older person’s chances of achieving recommended levels of ‘healthy walking,’ improved their level and range of activities, and increased feelings of life satisfaction.

To go outdoors for enjoyment, errands or physical activity, people often need to cross a street. In the United Kingdom, green lights require pedestrians to cross at a speed above 1.2 meters (3.9 feet) per second.
