United Church Homes expands presence in Northeast Ohio with acquisition of two senior living properties from Harbor Woods Living.

The properties, built in 2016, are located in Brunswick and Niles, Ohio, and operate as Harbor Woods Living at Brunswick and Harbor Woods Living at Niles. Each four-story building has 127 one- and two-bedroom spacious apartments with modern amenities that cater to active adults over age 55.

This acquisition is aligned with United Church Homes’ strategic priority to expand its portfolio of market-priced housing for middle-income older adults. There is a growing demand for housing for active older adults who want to downsize their living situations. These communities provide an opportunity for social connections along with the amenities and services that suit residents’ needs.

The apartments offer well-planned spaces that accommodate a socially active lifestyle and changing needs. This includes modern, fully equipped kitchens, washer/dryers, walk-in showers and patios or balconies. In addition, there is monitored security, an on-site fitness center, salon, library, game room and comfortable gathering spaces on each floor where residents can participate in a variety of monthly activities. The community also has detached garages, additional storage rooms and laundry centers with commercial equipment for large loads.

The Harbor Woods Living properties are located in areas with large populations of older adults and are close to shopping, medical services and local recreation options.

“We are pleased to welcome the Harbor Woods Living properties, and nearly 300 new residents, into the United Church Homes family,” said Rev. Kenneth V. Daniel, President and CEO. “These communities fit with our mission to provide active and abundant life for more older adults.”

Pinnacle, the current management company, will operate the communities through year end, and United Church Homes will become the on-site operator on January 1, 2021. Signage will transition over the next month to the new community names: United Church Homes — the Niles Community and United Church Homes — the Brunswick Community.

United Church Homes plans to hire a Resident Services Specialist for each property to coordinate a variety of a la carte support services for residents. This service has been popular at other United Church Homes communities with residents who live independently but benefit from added support to maintain their current lifestyle longer.

United Church Homes is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit providers of senior living and healthcare services for older adults. It ranked 25th on the 2020 LeadingAge Ziegler list of the top 100 providers of market-rate and affordable housing units. United Church Homes operates 70+ senior living communities in 14 states and two Native American nations. As an open and affirming organization that is also faith-inspired, United Church Homes maintains a covenant relationship with the United Church of Christ.
