[HOMING IN] In-home wellness rooms trending now

A recent article in Architectural Digest highlights a growing wellness trend: wellness rooms to incorporate into your home. It's something active-aging organizations might think about, particularly for independent living renovations and/or resident programming, since these "wellness oases" can be created on any budget, according to the article.

Design experts point out that since many people like to work out in the privacy of their homes,  more spas, saunas and home gyms are being included in renovation plans. Others note that while a wellness room might look different for everyone, the space should be free from distractions and judgment.

"Think about whatever brings you peace of mind, whether it's certain colors or materials, and add those to the space you're dedicating to wellness," Susana Simonpietri of Chango & Co is quoted as saying. Suggested rooms include not only a home gym, spa, or steam room, but also a "hammam" - a type of steam bath, similar to a Turkish bath. Other ideas include a soundproof room, a "chill corner" with soothing colors and textures, and a hobby room.
