[HEALTHSPAN RULES!] Top habits, trends for healthy aging revealed

Healthy aging is about adding more life to one’s years – that is, preserving health and energy for as long as possible – and the key is "taking good care of ourselves," said David Katz, MD, founding director of Yale University’s Prevention Research Center.

Katz was one of 53 experts whose responses were included in the "US News Healthy Aging Survey," conducted between June and July 2025. Experts were medical doctors, registered dietitians, fitness specialists and pharmacists who answered questions focused on healthy aging habits and trends.

The result is a detailed report on all aspects of healthy aging and healthspan, from top daily habits to common mistakes that make people age faster to the most surprising healthy aging insights. The report doesn't shy away from some controversial topics such as the best supplements for healthy aging, and it looks ahead to emerging products and upcoming trends.

Among the findings:

  • Exercise, diet, and quality sleep are cornerstones of aging well.
  • Small daily habits – like exercise, diet and sleep – collectively form the foundation for living longer, healthier lives.
  • Lack of exercise, smoking, and poor sleep hygiene are the most damaging behaviors that make people age faster
  • Social connection, lean muscle mass and gut health influence healthy aging and are among the top areas of interest among researchers and consumers. Artificial intelligence tools, wearable devices and the new weight-loss medications were also noted as next major trends in longevity.

Definitely worth reading and pondering!
