Canada confronting surge in social anxiety

Social anxiety disorder now affects nearly 1 in 7 Canadian adults—a 71% increase since 2002—making it one of the most common mental health challenges in the country, according to a recent survey-based study. Researchers from the University of Toronto examined the prevalence and psychosocial correlates of social anxiety disorder across the Canadian population and found that nearly 14% of Canadian adults have experienced social anxiety at some point in their lives, up from just over 8% in 2002.
