Ignite your passion with Active Aging Week-5809

Ignite your passion with Active Aging Week

People may live fully-with verve, vigor and vitality-at any age and regardless of health conditions. That's the message and the reality that Active Aging Week highlights each year during the last full week of September. Led by the International Council on Active Aging with support from national sponsors, Active Aging Week celebrates the positivity of aging today and promotes healthy, active living in communities and neighborhoods across North America and beyond. The campaign reaches adults ages 50 and older where it especially counts-at the local level. All kinds of organizations serve as local hosts for the weeklong festival, offering activities and events that encourage people to try something new and perhaps embrace a wellness lifestyle. Why not plan to participate and host events in your area?

Reimagining aging at the ICAA Conference 2016

The International Council on Active Aging Conference is the perfect time to detach from the day-to-day and think big about the people you serve, your practices and programs, and your colleagues. Reimagining your workplace to best serve older adults and meet the mission of your organization may be the best action you take once you return home. In this regard, the future is clear: For wellness leaders and staff to have impact, they must think strategically, assess and reinvent, and measure outcomes. In November 2016, the ICAA Conference brought professionals together from across the active-aging spectrum for an experience designed to help us move forward—as individuals, as organizations and as an industry.

"Changing the Way We Age": ICAA supporters highlight "moving" journeys

It’s an image that illustrates the potential of older adults to challenge themselves and pursue goals. Active. Determined. Steadfast. Kathy Ramsay conveys all that and more in a photograph Touchmark sent to the International Council on Active Aging to help mark our 15th anniversary in fall 2016. Gay Elliott shared a story of two journeys and how they intersect. One focuses on her journey as a fitness professional and active-aging proponent; the other reflects on her personal journey of life and aging. Dedicated individuals and organizations such as Elliott and Touchmark have united with ICAA and each other to support the mission of Changing the Way We Age. A milestone was the perfect time to say thank-you!
