Arthritis and back problems are leading causes of disability

A disability is a physical or mental impairment that prohibits a person from performing an activity within a range that a person without a disability could perform it. Although the estimated number of US adults who reported they had a disability in 2005 has not changed since 1999, the authors of a recent analysis caution that the percentage of the population with disabilities will rise as Baby Boomers continue to age.
